Today my answer would be 'no'. But ask me at the end of next month and the answer will be an emphatic 'YES'. There are several major changes slated for the year 2000 and the first of which is a change of venue. I've played many 'a gig at Tootsie's World Famous Orchid Lounge, but on January 8th I'm heading across the street for a gig at The Gaylord Entertainment Center (formerly the Nashville Arena). For those of you not familiar with it, this is the 17,500 seat arena where Elton John, Kiss, and Garth Brooks, to name a few, have recently performed. Not bad company to be associated with, eh?
For my maiden 'arena' gig, I will be playing guitar for an artist named Ashley Hayes and our opening "act" will be a hockey game with Nashville's Predators taking on the Chicago Blackhawks. Tickets for the show are available at Ticketmaster. Ashley attended the recent Molly Reid showcase and asked if I would be interested in playing acoustic guitar for this show. Who wouldn't? So everybody come on out and cheer us on and don't forget the added bonus...you know that little ol' hockey game they double booked with us.
(Note: For anyone who hasn't yet heard of Ashley, let me tell you that you soon will. Not only is she a great vocalist, but she is also a professional model and head of her own marketing business. Check out her business web site at www.ilovemusiccity.com and tell her Mark sent you there!)
Remember last months Green Pages mentioned a planned photoshoot with an underwater camera? Well it happened over the Thanksgiving holiday at the Donelson YMCA with Stacey, a model from Pennsylvania. We spent approximately 2 hours in the pool and came up with some great ideas and angles. Now for the bad news...the film was bad and not one picture developed. So, sorry to say, no underwater pics this month. I have a new years resolution to get my scuba diving certification and a real underwater camera. The good news is that Stacey still had some time to work with me and do an indoor photoshoot and you can check it out at http://www.futureclassx.com/photo/stacey/stacey.htm . Stacey is also affiliated with The Models Page and Glamour Link.
Another cool photoshoot this month was with the band Evermore. I've put a couple of the shots on my webpage at http://www.futureclassx.com/photo/evermore/evermore.htm and you can find their website at http://home.earthlink.net/~theblake/ . This band will be performing at Rutherford County Center for the Arts on Saturday, January 15th at 8:00pm and the cost is $5. Also showcased at the show will be the art works of Sara Neumann used in conjunction with video and lighting presentations to augment mood, music, and art. (for directions call the Rutherford County Center for the Arts at 615-904-2787 or contact Vincent at dusk audio.
I've been toying with a new art form that is generally referred to as digital art. My version of it is roughly described as the manipulation of photographs and computer generated art work into an image that is realistic and at the same time purely imaginary. My first significant attempt is entitled "Pegasus" and was created from photographs from the Tennessee Renaissance Festival, a sunrise in my backyard, and a bird flying over my sons soccer game. These have been combined into a surrealistic image of a knight riding on Pegasus above an actual castle in Tennessee. Check it out at http://www.futureclassx.com/art/pegasus2.jpg .
I have several more ideas stemming from this new media and I may be partnering with Ed Clapper and Don Crossland in Phoenix, Arizona to bring some of these ideas to life. Ed is proficient at developing realistic renderings of imaginary scenes and objects and Don has a strong background in graphic design and medium format photography. We are all musicians also, so music will slowly find its way into this project I'm sure. I'll keep you posted.
-I've got a photoshoot planned for January that promises to be very cool. It will involve a beautiful model (Penny Crook, hopefully) and something to do with the Invisible Woman from the Fantastic Four. Shhhhh, don't give it all away.
-There are several new photos displayed on the website in the nature section and the people section. Check 'em out. I am hoping to get one more capital building added before the end of the year, which is Raleigh in North Carolina. I will not have gotten all 50 states, so I guess that the deadline will be extended to the end of the year 2000.
-Remember the Styx Jam 99 back in February this year? Well you can revisit it on my new webpage on the StyxNet internet site. The address is http://www.styxnet.com/equinox . I encourage you to go check it out and download the video of me singing Suite Madame Blue. I was in seventh heaven playing for Styx fans that are as fanatical about the band as I am. For those out there that don't know it, Styx is alive and kicking and on tour right now. They have a new album out entitled "Brave New World". Dennis DeYoung will be performing a solo show with a 50 piece orchestra in February in Chicago.
-My photos have been finding their way to many other sites on the internet. I'll give you some examples next month, since I've talked my #ss off this month.
Happy Holidays everyone and thank you for your continued interest in Future-Class X Publishing.
Type at you next month!!!
