The Best of Times

by Mark Greenawalt

Just look at this picture above.  This is me having the time of my life playing the part of Tommy Shaw (guitarist/singer) during the STYX JAM '99 event.  This is the first time I've ever played for a crowd that literally went "bananas" for every song and sang along with every word.  Everybody knows that I am a big Styx fan anyway, but when Bill Vincent offered to let me play in the core band, I was in seventh heaven.  I got to sing "Suite Madame Blue" and "Boat On The River" and then also helped on guitar (acoustic & electric), mandolin, keyboards, and vocal harmonies on everything else.  Bill Vincent was the driving force behind organizing this national gathering of Styx fans here in Nashville and, b.t.w., he also played one hell of good Dennis DeYoung (keyboardist/singer of Styx).

The Styx tribute band was formed specifically for this event, but has since gotten a name (EQUINOX) and has been scheduled to play a show on April 8th at Players Draught House here in Nashville.  There is also talk on the internet of plans for STYX JAM 2K in Kansas City or Chicago...I'll keep you posted.

For more information on this past Styx jam, check out the photos at http://www.nephilim.com/renegade/jam.htm and you can also check out an on-line video of the fans on stage singing "Too Much Time On My Hands" by going to Bill Vincent's site at http://24.2.105.233/billjv/.

Congratulations To The New Colemans

by Mark Greenawalt

Dawna Bradford, who is the singer that I play guitar for, has taken the plunge with her new husband Andy Coleman.  They were married on March 13th in Texas. Dawna strived to make this an "untraditional" wedding and the ceremony was held in a barn on an Arlington ranch.  Despite the unseasonably cool weather, everyone enjoyed the rustic atmosphere and wished the newlyweds luck and happiness.  While I am writing this, I believe the Colemans are off basking in the Jamaican sunshine.  I was given the honor of singing a song that I had written for the wedding while the guests were being seated (before I started playing "amature-wedding-photographer").  The song is called "'Til Forever Fades Away" and the lyrics can be found by clicking here.

The Capital Project Update

by Mark Greenawalt

I am still attempting to take a photo of the capital building in every state in the United States by the end of this year.  I am still on track with 12 capitals down.  The most recent additions are Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Mississippi.  You can see these pictures by going to my web page, www.futureclassx.com, and following the tab labeled "Capital Project".  Other photos include Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, and West Virginia.  I have added a link to a very cool site called www.50states.com that has all the information you could possibly need about all of the United State's states.

Other Goings-On

by Mark Greenawalt

My little boy, Sage, is back in soccer at the YMCA and continues taking karate lessons at Cooper Karate in Hermitage.  Basketball season is over and would you believe he received a trophy just for playing basketball.  He's five years old and already has more trophies than I ever got.  The only reason I ever got a trophy at all was for being the bat-boy on my dad's softball team.

Our baby is on the way and is expected to arrive July 8th.  For those of you who haven't heard, he's a boy.  Lori and I want to give him a fairly uncommon name and though we still have some time to decide, two of the names that we have been kicking around so far are Trey and Zane (I'm for Zane so far).

Thank you to everyone who has signed my guestbook. I appreciate the encouragement.  For those of you who haven't signed it yet, I sure would love to hear from you.  It can be found from the home page of FUTURE-CLASS X PUBLISHING at www.futureclassx.com .
